About the “Solar Panel Power Generation Prediction Project” utilized

One of the EX (Energy Transformation) initiatives is to expand the renewable energy business, and with the introduction of the FIP system in 2022, more accurate power generation forecasting became a key to cost reduction.
In the early stage, before we had accumulated enough data, we used engineering models that did not require learning and could be built based on the mathematical and physical rules. Then, we chose to move to a machine learning model when we had accumulated a certain amount of data. This is expected to reduce costs through imbalance penalties.

The Importance and Effectiveness of Real Data in Learning Environments - from Professor Robert M. Freund

Especially in today’s learning environment in business analytics, it is critically important to have real data for real applications. And learning outcomes are further improved when the motivating application is related to sustainability and serving the public. We used the solar power generation and predication data provided by Mitsubishi Corporation to successfully motivate our prediction modeling tools, and we showed how better prediction can lead to better outcomes for all.
The student engagement and learning was so much better thanks to involvement of the group from Mitsubishi Corporation.
